A major stateside logistics service company starts a social network to access expertise

Thanks to 3PL News for the recent story of TMC Connect. TMC Connect is, according to the logistics management company behind it (TMC), "a social media site specifically for supply chain clients to interact."
TMC Connect was launched in December 2009 and apparently a large number of clients - supply chain professionals and transportation professionals - have signed in to the site.
TMC Executive Director Jordan Kass said: "TMC Connect works much more like a think tank where shippers can join focus groups discussing topics such as sustainability or fuel management. The difference is it's not a one time event - it is year round, real time, and through our cloud computing model our clients can participate from anywhere in the world."
Granted, this whole she-bang is locked away behind a mother of a fire wall. Call it social VPN. Nonetheless, it is heartening to see that some people in this industry understand that the alpha and omega of business value in the future will be communicating, sharing and developing together. Openness will be the only way.
And where shippers, or charterers, go, shipping goes. So....
