Well, I asked for it. Now it's here. CoracleOnline, a UK-based eLearning provider, launched a new game for iPhone/iPod called Ship It! on August 6.
I don't have an iPod or iPhone (hoping that phenomenon was a passing craze), so I don't have much idea how it works. By the looks of the YouTube demo (below), however, the player fills empty ships with cargoes, and embarks them.
Alas, my hopes of a game linked to (real) price development have so far come to naught. My only hope is that this little app is a success, and inspires Blizzard Entertainment to develop a massively multiplayer online role-playing game with a shipping theme.
Thanks for posting about our Ship It! game.
I'm afraid that I think your hope for the iPod/iPhone craze to pass may be wishful thinking(?) as Apple seem able to convince the world that it is the smart phone of choice... in fact, they have a point to some degree, especially when it comes to developing for their platform, as users benefit from their pushing out of software upgrades, unlike the other phones.
With the smart phone market growing an amazing pace (70pc of Europe's mobile market will be smartphones by 2012 - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/6041063/Smartphones-to-take-70pc-of-Europes-mobile-market-by-2012.html) there will hopefully be all sorts of interesting apps and developments coming out for the shipping industry.
In terms of a real time, linked to real prices shipping games, we actually have an idea all sketched out and ready to go into development, so if anyone out there is interested in working with us (ie, if anyone out there can help with funding!) then we'd love to talk...!
Cheers,
